Well, finals are right around the corner. This might be my last post until I come up for air after finals.
The home stretch of the Core is long and quite steep – we have six classes, all with their own deliverables. Here’s what many of us will be dealing with over the next few weeks:
We’ll have traditional comprehensive final exams in our Economic Analysis for Business Decisions (15.010), Data, Models and Decision Analysis (15.060) and Financial Accounting (15.515). In my Introductions to Operations Management (15.761) we had a simulation – we ran a plant, ran a whole bunch of models and we’re writing up our analysis.
In our Communication for Leaders (15.280) and Organizational Process (15.311) we have a joint deliverable. Throughout the semester, every single first year student has been working with a local organization. We will be providing recommendations and suggestions on how the organization should move forward as it works through a substantive organizational change. The analysis is from the Organizational Process lens and the delivery is from a Communications for Leaders lens. This is the type of work that is unique to Sloan – action-based learning that is multi-disciplinary.
Anyhow, I have not had a chance to talk about my awesome Learning Group/Core team (whatever we’re called). The seven of us have had a pretty great time learning from each other. We are from Chile, Hong Kong, India, Portugal and/or the states. The team has extremely diverse backgrounds, ranging from non-profit, consulting, engineering, accounting, entrepreneurial and political. To be honest, the assignments can be pretty daunting, and having seven people to coordinate schedules can be pretty tough. Fortunately the group is really focused on learning and working together, thus it’s been a pretty awesome experience working with them. Don’t tell them this, but I’m definitely going to miss them next semester when we’re no longer in our Learning Group/Core team (whatever we’re called).
Here’s a picture of us during our orientation retreat and when the seven of us went to Cape Cod for the weekend (pretty awesome getaway, I must say!)

Talk to you all after my first semester is all done!
